Daily count
The form you fill in at closing: float, sales by payment method, cash that left the drawer with its reason, and the bill and coin count. It tells you what should be there, what there is and the difference.
History
One row per day with its totals, what was counted and the difference. Days with money missing turn red.
Summary
Type the month and see what you sold by payment method, how much cash left the drawer and how many days didn't balance.
How to use it
The cash count, in three steps
- 1
Log the day
The date, the float you opened with and what you sold by payment method.
- 2
Count the drawer
Type how many bills and coins you have of each. The template adds them up.
- 3
See if it balances
Compare what you counted with what should be there. If money is missing it turns red; write down the cause.
Who it's for
For any business that takes cash
A shop, a stationery store, a salon, a food stall or a market stand: if money goes through a drawer, it has to be counted. The cash count is what separates "we sold a lot" from "the money is there". This template follows the same order you'd use by hand and keeps a record of every day.
Frequently asked questions
See all free toolsIs the template free?
Yes. Leave your email and it downloads right away. No card, no account.
Does it work in Google Sheets and on my phone?
Yes. It's built with formulas that work the same in Excel, Google Sheets and the Excel mobile app. For Google Sheets, upload it to your Drive and open it from there.
What do I do if the count doesn't balance?
Check the usual suspects first: cash that left the drawer and wasn't logged, a card sale written down as cash, or too much change given out. If it still doesn't balance, record the difference and its likely cause on the day's row. A shortage that keeps showing up with the same person or the same shift is a fact, not a coincidence.
How often should I count the register?
Every day at closing and, if you run shifts, at every shift change. A weekly count no longer tells you which day or who: the difference gets diluted and you never find it.
Do credit sales go in the count?
Yes, as sales, but not as money. They go on their own line so your total sold is the real one, and they're not added to what should be in the drawer, because that money hasn't come in yet.
What do you do with my email?
We use it to send you the template and, only if you ticked the box, to send you business tips now and then. We don't sell or share it, and you can unsubscribe anytime.
When the count does itself
Every sale with its payment method, and the closing already worked out
In Arca every sale is recorded with its payment method the moment you take the money. At closing, what should be in the drawer is already calculated: you only count and enter what you found. And every day's count stays on record, by store and by who did it.
